The cost of a criminal defense lawyer depends on your charges, your history, and the jurisdiction you have court in. There is no standard cost of a criminal defense attorney.
We can generally charge one of two different types of fees on criminal cases:
Flat Fee: The lawyer charges you a single fee for the case, no matter how much time they spend on the case and how many times they go to court.
Hourly Rate: The attorney charges you depending on how much time they spend on the case. Generally, you put down a retainer that is billed off, and when that retainer is gone, you have to pay more.
The type of fee we charge and how much that fee is depends on your particular case. My fee for criminal defense matters will depend on:
-
The Charges
-
Your Record
-
What Court You’re In
-
How Much Time I Anticipate Your Case Taking
We always try to be fair with our fee arrangements. If your case takes significantly less time than I thought, I often refund part of the fee.
My fee also does not include expenses that often come along with the case. This can include funds for a court reporter, transcripts, investigators, experts, and court fees.
If you cannot afford the full fee up front, we are glad to work out a payment plan with you. We take cash, check, money order, and all major credit cards.
Our fees are often not the cheapest, so if you’re looking for a cheap criminal defense attorney, you should look elsewhere. We count on fighting your case as much as possible, and doing everything we can to ensure that you get the best possible representation.
A cheap lawyer typically counts on doing less work for you, and that is a dangerous gamble when dealing with something that will affect you for the rest of your life. Remember, there’s nothing more expensive than a cheap lawyer.
